INNO4GRID

INNO4GRID (Innovative Technologies for Massive Renewables Integration into the Grid) is a Horizon Europe collaborative research and innovation project focused on enabling Europe’s electricity grids to accommodate much higher levels of renewable energy while maintaining reliability, resilience, and efficiency. The project is set for 3 years, involves 37 partner organizations from 14 countries and consists of 4 demonstration clusters (Western Balkans, Turkey, Norway, and Hungary).

INNO4GRID aims to develop an integrated set of technologies that help transmission and distribution networks cope with the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RES). The main goals include:

  • Developing advanced Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs);
  • Improving the integration of wind, solar, battery storage, and other distributed energy resources;
  • Creating advanced monitoring, forecasting, and decision-support platforms;
  • Enhancing collaboration among (i) Regional Coordination Centre (RCC), Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and (ii) RES producers and Energy Service Providers with (iii) top Industrial Manufacturers of smart grid technologies and (iv) Research Institutes/Universities and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs);
  • Demonstrating the developed solutions under real operating conditions.

The project will be realised
through the deployment of 4 products

Cross-border flexibility valorization and operators’ coordination for grid security
in Western Balkans

DER flexibility management and optional operation in Turkey

Innovative Wide-Area Monitoring Protection and Control (WAMPAC) system to Transmission and Distribution (T&D) grids in Norway

Voltage regulation in T&D levels in Hungary

SCC participates in the project as the leader of Work Package 4 (WP4) – Cross-border flexibility valorization and operators’ coordination for grid security in Western Balkans. Within this WP, SCC is responsible for the development of the three tools.
